~thieves and thievery~

“To teach thieves a lesson is very meaningful. If nothing is done to them, they will become more daring.” Wu Jian I am here... today... to make a point... a very important point. You see... I...my words...my thoughts...my images.. have fallen prey to a thief. An outright thief. This person..has stolen not just one... this person has stolen many of my posts... has backdated before blogging even exited as we know it. This person has stolen my images...and my watermark remains on some. This person has stolen from my dear friends blogs as well... and possibly many more.... A violation...an encroachment ...an intrusion; a sick obsession... This person must be stopped. I am asking you all, to take a moment of your time, please, and make a complaint to Wordpress... about this outright thievery. Plagiarism... Because YOU could be next. I am considering my options. I almost deleted my blog after being notified of this crime... yes, crime... it is the virtual world... but no less a crime has been committed. But then,I would be the one to suffer...to pay for the wrong doing... I could make this blog entirely private... but that is not what this is about. I have contacted Blogger in hopes of making this blog more secure. Secure from thieves... persons who have no original thoughts... or ideas of their own... and in some unfortunate way obtain some sense of being... some sick sense of satisfaction... from stealing the words and ideas of others. I have NEVER used this blog as a forum.. for political... for religious... or otherwise..than to try to create and inspire. And I am sad... sad and outraged and need your help. I believe in the power of numbers...the power of many. ~theresa

my uneasiness about an odd comment last week is nothing compared to what you must be feeling, theresa. i'm very sorry this is happening; that it happens at all. you have my support, of course.

I complained to wordpress last night after Alison alerted me. Shocking and bizarre, it is hard to imagine from where I sit why someone would do this. That life for some is so distorted as to seek gratification this way. I am glad you did not delete your blog and you let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.

Oh, I'm so sorry. I hope our complaints will help. You are a talented artist, and I love your blog. I'm so sorry someone is steeling your beautiful work.

I just tried to register a complaint, but it was really complicated and seemed as though I had to be the blog owner to register the complaint. Do you have a link we can use to make our complaint?

What is with people?
Where the heck is the respect?
I just don't get it. Can't you just admire someones work, someone "art" and leave a little happier, a little inspired...than having to STEAL it?
Your watermark is on there...Hello!
So sorry for this T, sad there are no bounderies.

I'm so sorry to read about this. Your blog is beautiful and truly inspirational; I hate to think of it threatened. I've sent my comments to Wordpress so hopefully the offending blog will be suspended soon.

It is so pathetic. How insecure and talentless must this person be to gain some sort of thrill from stealing your words and images? He/she will never know true fulfillment nor make any sort of genuine bonds by attempting to assume someone else's identity. If it wasn't such a vile act, I could almost feel sorry for this person.

It is shocking, disturbing, and so totally sad that people don't have faith enough in themselves and feel the need to steal from other people's art and talents. I feel sick for you about this, and I hope you get it straightened out soon. (((hugs)))

I'm trying to remain calm about it for now [although I have notified wordpress and left a couple of not-so-nice comments on "my" posts...]

Jeez, how so disheartening and discouraging to be robbed in such a manner. I could even identify those images as yours even without a watermark! Sorry about that.

Oh, this is so, so horrible! I am so sorry. We must all be vigilant in fighting against individuals who steal others' work. I have had my work plagiarized in print before, but so far--as far as I know--not in the blog world. It makes me sick to think people get some sort of satisfaction from such a blatant and profound violation.

Your writing and photos are an inspiration. We're all here supporting you.

amazing what some people who lack creativity will do. Thank you for not deleting your blog. Don't let them win.
How very upsetting for you. You have made excellent points and Wordpress had better take note! I would be glad to lend my voice, but couldn't seem to find where one lodges a complaint. Have you considered contacting any regulatory agencies that might police internet crime?

I cannot believe she actually stole your posts and your images! What in the world is the point of doing that? I am so sorry and hate that it has happened to you. I would feel absolutely violated. I too am glad that you have not deleted your blog. I'm sure Wordpress will be getting an ear full!

I have known you from flickr, but saw via a photo you posted about this; I had to come read. I am appreciative of your original photography....I will never understand why people do that?? There is enough creativity to go around and we all have a unique form of expression.

I will do anything I can to support stopping dishonesty and stealing of others work.

Peace and support!

So sorry that your material has been stolen! You have a lovely and unique blog. I'm thinking that one of the reasons your thief stole is to build traffic to his/her site. If that's the case, you may want to rethink linking to that site in your post.

OMG...my jaw is on the floor. Between this and flickr so much is getting stolen. I can't even imagine what images of mine are floating around in the wrong hands. I will send a complaint. I am so sorry...

So sorry to hear this, it must feel dreadful. She needs a post about integrity! There are some very strange people in this world, it must have taken her an age to pull all those posts together. There is also work on there I recognise from other blogs that I follow.
Please do not give up blogging because of one persons heartless act.
Leonie said…
No way...that is just beyond belief. That is so unfair. Will be writing to Wordpress. So sorry you have been treated this way.

This is unthinkable! I'm certain many cannot begin to write a blog as inspiring and beautiful as yours (and your friends) but to steal another person's words, thoughts, photographs...I cannot imagine!!!???

I am so very sorry. I am glad you have not closed your blog. I for one would be very sad to see you go.
much love,
carol

I came via the post from Sooz and know Al personally.

It is just sick that someone would spend the time doing something like this. For what gain??

Have left some comments on the offenders blog but not sure if they will be published.

Hope you are ok.

I saw your post this morning but didn't have time to comment. I am so saddened that people can steal from all those wonderful blogs without a shred of honesty about the sources. I recognised so many pictures from talented bloggers and yourself. I have had the odd photo used by others without permission but never to this scale.
i wonder what we can do to protect in th efuture without making blogs private or deleting them? Don't delete yours please. xxx
what a violation....i dont have the words....sending you positive thoughts T. x

hey, i am sure that we will all do what we can to help put this to a stop. it is a real tragedy. i talk to me students about this sort of thing all them time, because it sadness me that someone would think to steal someone's thoughts and words. some of the most intimate of things.

I feel terrible that this has been done to you. It would be worse if you let it keep you angry and hesitant to share your creativity. You won't get these moments back so please don't let someone like that take away your peace of mind. We are all behind you. Feel the love, T.

I saw a couple of posts cached via google. They are pretty incoherent, but then I've not visited your blog or your friend's before. This person does seem deranged.
Please T, don't wind up your blog because of this. You want to end it for your own reasons, because you moved onto something else. If you end it now, there's a chance this nasty encounter could dominate your memories of what I presume are years of blogging. That would be very sad.
One of the great things about creating an online persona is the ambiguity that can surround identity - but in a situation like this, it's also highly distressing because you know nothing about this person who has stolen your thoughts and images. The reality behind all this may not be anywhere near as alarming as it seems. The unfortunate fact is that you will probably never know. So yes, the stalking analogies are spot on. Take care

Goodness, I'm so sorry, what an unpleasant and extremely off thing to happen. I don't fully understand why someone would do this, I don't think there is any excuse in this instance.

I was late reading this but I did see the update on Flickr that action is being taken. I'm so sorry that this happened to you T...I can't understand how a person could blatantly steal a persons creativity, a persons 'life'. What a truly sad life they must lead.

I am glad though that Wordpress is taking action. At least we know that good can prevail.

Some people are utterly pathetic! Someone scraped a bunch of posts from my blog last year and that was annoying enough. I will be complaining to Wordpress.
Mary Joy (MJ) said…
I'm sorry to hear it's happened to you, too. It's widespread, and insidious.

Someone stole 10 of my blog posts--about my life in France--and put their copyright notice on top of MY pictures, even though they all had my name on it. I contacted Google and the website no longer shows up on that search engine. Their domain registrar and site hosts, unfortunately, couldn't care less. It takes all kinds of people to do this sort of thing, and I no longer brush aside any excuse of "Oh, I didn't know, sorry....." because they're only sorry they were caught.

Anyway, a well-written post. Thanks for bringing your fight out into the open.
I just don't get it. What kind of a heartless and mindless beast is this person?!I am so sorry you are experiencing this assault.

Oh Theresa - I don't comment on other blogs often, but this has really gotten under my skin (found out about it by way of Nora). I hope whoever is behind this has to face up to what they've done. How did you find out about the plagiarized posts?

I hate that incidents like these put a cloud over everything that's good & fun about blogging. I think you've done the perfect thing by deciding to carry on & not to shut down with your site. *Hugs*

Dear T-I have only been blogging for a few months now but already my blog is a SACRED space. I can use no other word because it is such an intimate part of me-my words, innermost thoughts, my art and photography-to be VIOLATED in such a way...I am so very sorry ...so very very sorry. It is not only an outrage and a crime but...sad that someone would do this. I am glad that the blog has since been deleted. Best of wishes.
