just tweed

TWEED: a rough woolen fabric;
Sheep thrive in the hills and bogs of Donegal,
and indigenous plants such as blackberries,fuchsia and moss provide the dyes;
Magee of Donegal, located in Ulster, is the most famous tweed manufacturer in Ireland.
TWEEDY: given to wearing tweeds.
TWEEDLEDEE and TWEEDLEDUM: oh,well...
It's made from Debbie Bliss Chunky Donegal Tweed ,and has the most interesting flecks of fuschia, and blackberry and moss colors throughout.
This is my Drop collared cabled jacket- the pattern from Debbie Bliss.
This yarn was originally destined to become something else, as a matter of fact,it was 1/2 into becoming Debbie Bliss' Kilcar. I was having doubts whether I wanted to finish that particular pattern...so it slept in my knitting bag for almost 1 year,that is,until I saw this and said "yes"; it is the one.
the ripping began and the needles came out, ebony needles... and with the black tweed,
I began my journey into the land of moss stitch once more...
this time with cables added,for a bit of interest.
Black is hard to work with,hard to see,when using dark,ebony needles,but I persisted...
and now I have a sweater I truly love.It fits well,has a nice swing,but not too baggy.
And I just happened to have the perfect buttons...
(thanks again Alison )...
you see,I have been busy...I made these mitts also...a Rowan pattern from Martin Storey
winter gifts ...made from RCY silk wool DK in limewash...and again I am in love.
call me a TWEEDY...
and these knits will be my tweedle dee and twedle dum...
I will be wearing them together...a lot!

good grief, you have been busy. That tween yarn is wonderful; my lys just got it in. I love the shade you chose for your sweater. The mitts are great...I thought I would need to start wearing mitts here as it snowed last week, but the snow went away and we actually are having unseasonably warmer weather. Great for us runners. It sucks to run in freezing cold.
so much woolen and cable goodness in one post! they are lovely, theresa! well done.

Wow, not one, but two fabulous knits. I love the black tweed jacket. It's perfect to throw on when it's not too cold. And those mittens are scrumptious. So great in that color. What wonderful projects you always pick!

What wonderful tweediness!! They're both beautiful.
I want to drop everything I'm doing and knit something in tweed yarn! Such a great look. Bravo :)

The mitts are also wonderful - a Rowan classic for sure.

Enjoy :)

Oh tweed, tweed! I love the tweed! And those mitts. I have the pattern for them too. Did you convert to knit them in the round. If not, dare I ask how fiddly the seaming around the pattern was!

Wow. Just wow . . . I love the two and they both look so classic. There's something about that Tweed. I got some Debbie Bliss Donegal Aran Tweed in a swap and it felt so rough at first, but once it is knit up it just feels wonderful and earthy. What great knits for yourself, Theresa!

You HAVE been busy indeed, with the most lovely results. I totally love that Debbie Bliss pattern and think you make a beautiful yarn choice.

And I'd love some of those mitts for myself, but I'm afraid the holes would let the chill in... It gets so very cold here.
