I made a gift

A gift or present is the transfer of something, without the need for compensation. A gift is a voluntary act which does not require anything in return. Today I made a gift,for a friend. It is a gift made of cotton,of wool,of linen,of buttons,of thread. It is called a "huswife" or needle roll. These types of needle rolls were ubiquitous two centuries ago. Commonly carried by women or girls,they held tiny scissors,buttons or precious pins from a peddler man. They were also used by soldiers and sailors for necessary mending... This one has a pocket for storing,a place to tie a pair of scissors and a pincushion stuffed with bits of wool and dried sweet annie .There is a needle keep from wool and I left behind the needle used to make this...it is made by hand...the stitches are meant to be shown,it is to look old,aged,although this one was made with more modern fabrics it still has the feel of long ago. It is rolled,and wrapped with waxed thread around a special button...pewter. It will soon be sent,to a friend. I hope that she will like it.
